There isn't a standard or personal criteria to meet but a lot of companies tend to like drivers who can drive both Manual and automatic transmissions

When your a company driver, you drive the company truck. I don't understand why a driver should be judged in anyway, they don't control what the company buys for trucks. I do understand that when your searching for companies you would like to work for the kind of transmission comes into play, but to judge a company driver for the truck he drives seems petty to me.

Seems to me that driving an auto requires little training, compared to learning to shift a 13 speed manual. BTW I hate auto-shifts.

Amen to that. I can out-do any slow poke auto-shift driver. Real trucks have manual transmissions. Cars drivers have automatics.

Its not the truck, its your ability, or in your case non-ability, to drive a manual shift transmission that makes older drivers like me judge you.

Its not rocket science driving a manual shift transmission. I was floating gears on my first week as a driver way back in the 1970's. :biggrin_25525:

Yeah, and if a newbie gets tired of the road and wants local work, most local outfits do not use auto-shifts at all. Tough luck there.

Your right, it's not rocket science, I know this because I can drive a manual transmission truck.:biggrin_2559: I am not sure from my post, you came to the conclusion I can't drive a stick.

very bigoted small minded people stand behind that statement
all of us that drive automatics are not incapable of driving standards
some of us even learned on quad boxes
the same bias was heard around the TS in the seventies about power steering

Do you remember when only sissies wanted air-conditioned trucks? I remember it well. I love automatic transmissions and don't feel less the man for it.

You wont out shift a Volvo I-Shift automated.
    It is just to fast.
That it is why it is the transmission of choice for trucks over 200 000lbs in many places round the world.

    striker Thanks this.
