Anybody ever have problems starting to go up a pretty steep incline and it not wanting to go in gear when you shift when youre empty? Im talking about starting from a complete stop.

You need to let out on the clutch a little bit in order to put it in or out of gear, don't try to force it. Seems like you might be engaging the clutch brake. Don't push the clutch all the way to the floor.

Yep, we have the problem with the range trucks. Only cure I found was tach it out and shift quick.

Hit the clutch JUST ENOUGH to disengage, pull out of gear and release clutch. Hit the next gear.

With enough practice to do this quickly, you'll be able to shift rapidly and smoothly.

I learned in school that if it wont go into gear you need to rpms to be a tad higher than is normal for whatever gear you're trying to get into.

He said it won't go in gear not that it won't come out.

Skill and practice my friend. There is a reason you don't get paid much as a newbie. You need high rpms and shift FAST because you will loose all our road speed as fast as the rpms come down. Now that s my advice if you are newer at drivng and not the greatest shifter. With more experience you will short shift it (lower rpm) at least I do but you have to have the motor and tranny to pull it in order to do it that way.
All these company trucks are running these 10 speeds which really hurts you trying to do this. the spread between gears is just too far.I have a hospital I deliver to with my day cab in Debuque IA and if you stop at the top of the off ramp it is SO steep you just have to drive it in first or second to where it levels off because you just can't make the sift fast enough with a ten speed

You can get the engine RPMS down faster if you float with the Jake on low. If you don't know how to float you can try a "half float" where you clutch and release to get it out of gear and then slam it (gently!) into gear just after the jake kicks in for a half second. Easier than it sounds...

I did have the problem when I first began driving. It was when I was trying to go up an off ramp I had stopped on. I really havent had the problem since, been driving about 2 years now. But I didnt know if maybe I just hadnt been parked on such a steep incline since.
