And how many of those truckdrivers that have a legal permit to carry a gun do you hear on the CB?
And just "looking" at truck drivers determines nothing except who needs a shower, haircut or a shave.

I am a former trained fighter. I am trained in reading body language. I am always evaulating those around me.

I am far from paranoid, but aware of my surroundings at all times. A fighter is trained to react without thinking. I have not been in the ring in years, but all my former training is a reflex. I have gotten slow and my reaction time has faded over the years, but a good fighter is trained if you have to stop and think what you will do then it is too late. Needs to be a natural reaction. I carry myself well and always look for an out. I know who is around me. I look to see if they are right handed or left. If they favor any part of their body. Where their weakness is. There is a lot you can tell by a person if you know what to look for.

I never judge people solely on the way they look, especially when it comes to Constitutional matters.

A lot of drivers, I dare say the majority, have a CB persona or image they try to project. It is usually a character from the TV shows "Hee-Haw" or "The Super". You know what I'm saying. Most are not nearly as dumb as they try to sound on the CB when they are attempting to be humorous with their idiot comments and language.

If I thought for one minute what I was hearing on the CB was real, I'd be shouting Amen to your proclamations.

While a trucker may be a potential victim and target of a criminal, the beauty is that nobody really knows just for certain - does that driver pack heat or not?

The notion that truckers do arm themselves, be it many or few, does have its merit.

That's about all I'll say publicly...

Guns

No one was hit.

|The proper use of a gun as a weapon to kill someone requires training to the extent that it is instinct. If you have to think, draw the weapon, release the safety, aim and shoot, it is too late. When someone who is ready to kill you sees the movement towards the gun, you will be dead. If someone holds a gun on you and thinks he sees a movement for a gun, you will be dead. The person threatening you has already done all the thinking. All they have left to do is the reflex of pulling the trigger. This can be done very quickly when the adrenalin is flowing. Smoothly drawing and accurately firing a weapon with the adrenalin flowing and the emotions peaked can only be done if you have experienced it and trained for it.

The training for this is not readily available for most people. Half trained, you have the reflexes and become very dangerous. The reflexes have been used against the worng targets and kiled family members, etc. If you have fully fully completed a training program |(prison guard, etc) you may be ina position to instantly switch from driver to killer with all the mental gymnastics this takes. If you gun is at hand, you may be fast enough. If you get one shot off, it may prevent the attcker from getting a shot off at you. But the odds are agains you witha ll those ifs. And, if you were trained, you would know that. Since you are reading this far, it is safe to assume you are not trained to use a gun to kill in civilian situations (which are very different from military actions). In which case a gun in your hand is a danger to you and will get you killed.

Perhaps someone who has been trained and kiiled with a gun will comment about carrying a gun. But my training has convinced me it would be too dangerous to have in the truck for my safety as well as for the legal reasons.

So what your saying is screw trying to protect yourself, your dead either way, that doesn't make sense. one more question, are you or were you in Law enforcement?

Civilian deadly force training is available all over the country. I personally like the Sig Arms Training facility up in Exeter, NH. The prices are not bad and the training is the same that Sig provides to police forces around the country. Speak for yourself but apply your thinking to everyone not trained to your specs is just irresponsible. You want to carry, you need to shoot regulary with the ammo you carry in the gun to become proficient. If you seek more advanced training it is available simple as that. Law abiding armed citizens are responsible for stopping more crime than will ever be reported. Try the Sig website or goggle search for the training you desire.

Hey Guys, let me say this......

Some folks are comfortable carrying in certain situations, some are not. Some look strictly at the legal situation, while others are willing to push the envelope. NoTarps is trying to make a point. He doesn't pack because of the legalities and his personal comfort level of packing a gun in his situation, regardless of the second amendment. Others will pack to feel comfortable. It doesn't matter what you choose to do, as long as you have a choice........ THAT is what the second amendment guarantees and that is what of gun freedoms are about. He said, he owns several, but chooses not to carry in a CMV. There is no doubt that the "smoking monkee" can take care of himself, and I'm sure if he felt any differently about his abilities to do so, that would influence his decision. Let's face it, if you drive a truck OTR, you won't be legal everywhere, and you won't need a gun everywhere. Stop and look for a moment about places like Jersey and NYC. If you get caught with a handgun there, whether you use it to defend yourself or not, you're going to jail for a mandatory one year. PERIOD!!! I don't like it and I'm sure many who live there don't like it either. But remember, Carrying anywhere is a choice, and I won't slam a guy for making his choice not to. Personally I do carry, but that doesn't force anyone else to do so. My decision is my decision. Your decision is yours and only you can make it.

Look, if you feel the need to carry in a CMV, well, lets face it. Maybe this isn't the career for you. Because you haven't learned how not to be statistic. And , my friend carrying a handgun is not the way. Before we jump to the usual anti gun / liberal rhetoric, I am a veteran of 1 Police action (panama) and 1 War (Operation Desert Shield thru Desert Sweep)
as a Cavalry Scout. I love firearms! I love demolitions! I love hand to hand! And they all have a time and a place, and can all be avoided!
All that is just being socially responsible! (the avoiding the use part) Anything else is making up for something one is missing, whether it be physically, mentally, or manhood wise.
Because lets face it, if YOU DO NOT put yourself in the POSITION to be A VICTIM, THEN YOU WILL NOT BE A STATISTIC! and this entails more than "packin' heat for the big bad highway terrorist" or as we used to refer to as the "Boogie Man"
