Hi - This thread is close to promoting a business, I apologize and I'll try to steer clear of offences.
I think I can get rich quick if I get a truck and use CNG instead of diesel. It just makes sense to me. The fuel is half cost, I don't get paid any different from anyone else. That means $40,000 extra dollars at the end of the year.
What am I not seeing?
I have a machine that can make $.10 a gallon equiv of methane/CNG. This sounds even better.
What am I missing. I lose sleep at night because I think I am going to make some fast money.
should I quit my day job?

Psst....u missed something. U can't just convert a diesel to use CNG and a new one ( KW day cab / Cummins dual fuel ) costs about $180k before your uncle gives you a tax break for buying it..... and that's a tax break, not a check so you kinda need to bring it in before you write it off.
Range is limited too unless you can bring your machine with you....just sayin.
You can do your pick up for a couple or 3 grand tho...........

did you see what happened to the hindenburg on old news clips. cng for one does not have power diesel has, so u would use more of it. and i think you are asking for a whole lot of problems. be safe

CNG requires 3 gallons to produce the same energy of 1 gallon of diesel fuel.

I didn't know what the IFTA was so I looked it up on the internet and I learned it meant The Independent Film and Television Alliance. Why would the The Independent Film and Television Alliance get mad if I use CNG?

For trucking IFTA stands for International Fuel Tax Agreement. They are the organization that is responsible for distributing your fuel tax to the correct jurisdictions and collecting any amounts that are due. You owe fuel tax based on the distance you travel in each state/province not based on how much you purchase in a state. Its essentially a giant shuffle with you having to send in a cheque for any amount due or receive a refund cheque if you overpaid tax.
Some companies have experimented with CNG trucks. It seems most found they lack power, fuel economy and reliability. And they are expensive to buy. Most are trying to offload them but they can't find buyers so they are just writing the units off. Natural Gas may be cheap but it has to be cheap because you are buying three or four times more of it then diesel. It will continue to be used in city work with light loads and straigh truck type applications but I doubt you will see it adopted by the OTR market without some vast improvements in the technology. You're missing plenty. Keep researching it and be honest with yourself if you have a lot of up-front money to spend to invest in an engine that will cost more and more to operate as CNG and LPG market prices go up in direct proportion to demand, then federal highway taxes get added to CNG/LPG. There are plenty of places for CNG, but IMO vehicles is not where it's at today.

Some co. are useing CNG in local uses and sometimes doing fine with it. This past summer we had a city truck refueling w/cng blow up, driver was burned pretty bad kinda makes ya think.
