Got a delivery in Downtown Atlanta just off 75 on Monday. Never been beyond the 285 loop. Anything I should expect? Like getting pulled over as soon as a cop sees a cmv down there? Directions that I was given seem straight forward, looking at the satellite imagery they seem like good roads. tried calling GA's commercial vehicle line but of course they're off on the weekends along with everyone else apparently. The place I'm delivering to is not one take things lightly so I'm comfortable with their directions, just curious if anyone else has delivered down there and what to expect.

I never been pulled over but there have been drivers that had. Just as long as your bills have an address inside the loop you are good. Just head down the middle. Where are are you headed? Are you up in Crossville now? I live down the mountain from you outside Spring City.

I've ran through a time or two (Bad truck driver! Bad!), but the 285 loop was blocked. Delivered a few loads downtown too. Never got stopped. Just stay in the right lane and go 5 under.

I would highly recommend you get in there early.
You want No part of the morning rush hour.

There are many places you can sit outside the gate is why I asked where you are going. You have to hit Atlanta by 0600 or you will be crawling.

If it's this Monday your talking about (Dec 31-New Year Eve) . Keep in mind it may be a Holiday for a lot of people. I would think traffic should be light.

I've driven straight through a bunch of times :biggrin_25513:. Never had an issue.

We've had a lot of break in in the Atlanta area for many years. So lock your doors and mind your own bee's wax :biggrin_25525:

I have been inside the loop probably a hundred times, never been stopped or hassled in any way. If your bills show a delivery there, you have every right to go , unless street signs forbid it. As they say, terrible AM traffic, holidays might be better than usual.

If you're worried about posting your exact destination, you could narrow it down to a major intersection. "Atlanta" is about 132 square miles. Your journey may be easy. Or not. Usually there are good and bad routes to anywhere depending on time of day.

With a little more detail, a local may give you the better route. Or at least give you a clue as to how early to get rolling, assuming a start in Columbus, GA. Unless you're in Ohio. That could be bad LOL.

Edited to add: I can confirm what others say on the truck restriction. Unless you're driving stupid, chances are no cops will look twice at you. Local delivery on your bills is your pass. We don't go inside 285 often, but it's never been a big deal.

One more bit of trivia: Lane width on the connector (the section where 75/85 are one) is 11' not the usual 12.5' thanks to the '96 Olympics and the diamond lane they threw in there to impress the guests. Best advice there is stay in the middle somewhere to avoid getting trapped in exit only lanes on either side.

Delivered in the loop many times and I echo the others in that I have never been stopped but as long as the bills say where you are going then no problem. Also, you might consider heading in early as the traffic might be horrendous but with the holiday you might be ok. I would always go in as early as possible.
