I assume so since I always get Tyson loads and I am always delayed. Because of this I just drop my trailer at their facility and bobtail out. Tonight I came back eight hours later to find that they haven't even unloaded it yet.

I know years ago those meat packing plants were just like produce "yes, your loads ready!" get there "no not ready yet be about an hour" 8 hours later you get loaded but idk anymore

You should of come back 10 hours later and got your break in as long as you waited 8 hours. If you leave the property it is easier to call and see if you are empty. The meat business is long dock times and run like fire. Many companies practice drop/hook at meat facilities. It takes a lot of chickens to fill a trailer. You might get all but one pallet loaded and have to wait two hours for a specific part to be processed. Tyson handles a bunch of pork too along with some beef plants. They do pay well. I've pulled many $3.30 a mile loads from them.

Your case as an inbound they most likely cross dock your load instead of storing it. All it takes is one late driver to mess up you getting empty.

I remember the inhouse beef/pork carrier was PBX before Tyson took over IBP. Those guys pulled their own trailers and made a decent rate as I recall.

I assume so as well, since I have waited more than 10 hours at Tyson many times before, and Maverick lets it go every time. I've heard they're one of our highest paying customers, so I guess they can do whatever they want lol.

Waiting is the problem with those meat contracts. You're waiting for live animals to go through the slaughtering process and into your trailer, plus the paperwork. Strangely, about the same wait times occur at those ceramic tile plants in Texas.

That sounds plausible, although I think when they see me coming, they wait for the baby cows to grow up first.

Yes, and with the chickens, wait for the eggs to hatch.
