The first thing I do when I have to switch tractors is to check the front brakes, especially if I'm going to be pulling a lightly loaded trailer, there are too many people that back the front brakes off thinking it makes the tractor less likely to Jackknife, when in fact, it's the other way around. I don't argue with any of them about it either, life is too short to always be ticked off, and they all think they know more than I do.

I always thought it was better to have the trailer brakes backed off just a little, maybe before ABS. __________________ Z-Lady's devoted hubby.

If you have a load that's all in the front of the trailer and it's very cold with slippery conditions, even that isn't enough, especially if the trailer brakes don't release. ABS, if it's working is the only legal remedy for that.
