First trucking job I ever had was Midwestern Distribution (the Dollar$ trucks) out of Ft. Scott KS, and the dispatchers were behind locked doors. I guess so the drivers would not go postal on them, LOL.

Any companies like this anymore? I work for Knight now, can go anywhere in any terminal-no locked doors.

    mje and Chinatown Thank this.

Last company I was at had locked doors and security to keep drivers out.

You were not allowed to walk amongst them. They came out to see you.

It's probably less about drivers going ballistic than you might think. Even in an office where everyone is sitting on their rumps, having a bunch of people walking around sporadically and randomly, and having drivers just walking up to dispatch desks and interrupting dispatchers while they're in the middle of calls with other drivers or shippers... it all makes for a pretty chaotic scene.

I seem to remember when I worked for Knight, that their dispatchers in Phoenix were behind locked doors. However, with my memory, anything is possible. That was a long time ago.

    mje Thanks this.

My company you can walk into dispatch. No locked doors. Even the owner and his brother who is in charge of dispatch leave their office door open unless they are having meeting.

    striker and mje Thank this.
