What if the company put you in an older truck than what you're in now...would you quit?

We have a 2005 KW T2000 with a C15 Acert and a 13 spd that has been a pain in the neck all from emission issues. We bought it for the previous driver who preferred the wider cab than our trucks had (T800, T600 and T660). That driver is gone now and his replacement of 3 years is hinting about getting rid of this truck because of the down time. I have to agree with him but I'm afraid anything else will be just as bad so I have been looking for a NICE mechanically and cosmetically sound pre-emmisions truck. I told him if I get another truck it will be pre 2003 and he rolled his eyes. Tried to explain that ALL the problems with his truck are emissions related and it aint solving any problems getting newer.

So I've found a really nice 1986 359 from the southern states with a 425 Cat, 15 spd, corvette dash, 60 something flat top bunk. Would you move from a 2005 T2000 to a 1986 359? I know I would but not everyone likes classic iron. I have to admit I would miss not standing up.

wow.though probably a nice truck, the 359 is old.the issue list could become endless although many prefer a truck that old as working on them is easier.the issue here is the amount of work the 359 will need IF it hasn't been kept up as well as possible.it potentially could be in the shop more than the 2005.63" flat top is what the factory produced.kw's had the 60".

let the driver roll his eyes all he wants to,if he doesn't want to drive an older truck,he can move on.personally,a well kept 2003 would be ideal.oh wait.i drive a 2003fl century and i bet that it is more comfortable than most 1986 359's but perhaps i am biased.

I never cared what I drove. As long as it was safe and I made money.

Everyone's different, but I'd love to roll down the road in a 359! Especially with that 425 in it..

First off, it all is a matter of opinion. I haven't been trucking long, but have been around the industry and an enthusiast. I would be happy with an older Volvo, lets say a 1998-2003 before they did the redesign. I'd want it with a Detroit Diesel Series 60. I was really big on the Classic XL's too, though I wouldn't want to drive one with out the spot mirrors. I've driven the pre 2003 C15 CAT's, they moved really good, were not that loud in a Columbia and the boost the turbo made and the jakes were just awesome.

Anyways, to me the engine is one of the most important things in the truck. But living over the road, I like my space. I've driven a mid roof and now I have a full condo. For the most part, the power plant is what is important to me. As long as the truck is maintained, I'm game. Some of these older trucks are just beat to hell, excessive play in the wheel, dash boards falling apart, rattles and vibrations through out.

HHMMMM a 359 with an old mech. 3406b simple to fix of course there is that annoying plume of black smoke when you change gears and that rumble in the straight stacks when you get the boost over 15 psi so I think with those kind of drawbacks you should not purchase that truck for your driver and leave it for someone who really wants it IMHO.

I would feel right at home in it. Ive been seeing an abundance of nice 359s for sale on craigslist down south. Wish I had some extra cash laying around to pick one up. Im just guessing but sounds like your driver might be one of these "new breed" types. My only concern with that truck is how do what do you hook up the elog to? I havent been able to get an answer for this yet.

I always figured that it was a company truck, that they paid me to drive, (and take care of.) No matter what it was. Only two things I cared about, reliability and comfort. Of course I had preferences, who doesn't. But preferences is not what I was paid to worry about.

I have a few drivers who would likely want an older PETE if I get a chance on getting a decent one in place of new KW's they are in now
