Hey everyone. Yesterday I was trying too find the location into one of my drop yards. Before i made the turn onto a street. I noticed a low clearence sign. Im in houston tx btw. So i accidently missed a turn and am unfimilar with the area. I started too get worried because i did not know where the bridge or clearence is at. So what i did was i checked all lanes turned on my hazards, and pulled a u turn. It was four lanes with a center and no traffic at all. Another company driver saw me. He had a trainer in the truck with him. Once i got into the drop yard and dropped my load. He than told me that our van osr was notified and that my driver manger would be notified. So this morning i get call while im doing my pre trip from one of the driver managers. She told me that they were informed and i would have too speak too osr. At the same time they wanted my input on why i pulled a u turn. I told them that i saw a 13-3 bridge low clearence sign before i got too the bridge and got scared. What was i supposed too do espically if im unfimilar with the area. I need your thoughts everyone am i at fault for doing something that couldve been avoidable had i got close too it. Most likely i will be under some sort of trouble. If thats the case i most likely will live the company im driving for and find something else.

I won't get into the trip planning but will say that U-turns are a very big no no.

Depending on the company you very well may be leaving the company whether you want to or not.

    It's a shame a co-worker would 'tattle'.

So if you get in trouble, you'll leave? Seems like a good idea...

If I had to guess, they'll probably say something along the lines of, "Hey, don't do that again!" Then you may have to sign a paper saying you're very sorry, you don't know what came over you and you swear it will never happen again.

U-turns are a fireable offense at many places. Always make sure there is no traffic AND no witnesses.

Sadly and unfortunately, I have seen employees get written up and terminated because another employee "tattle taled" or "snitched" on the terminated employee. It is EXTREMELY STRESSFUL when situations like that occur.

It would be nice to think that truck drivers are ABOVE "tattle taling" or "snitching" on one another. It really makes a person wonder about all this.

Bah. Sometimes you get into situations where the only way out is a u-turn. Fire me if you want, I didn't top the truck, hit anything or anyone else, or receive any citations. More than one of them was with the assistance of local PD. Most were also due to incorrect directions, as well. TMC, Ryder, FFE...all have (or had) no u-turn policies, and I was never fired.

You do what you have to do, to safely resolve the situation. I'll break a company rule, to avoid damaging their truck or hurting someone. If they can't live with that, too bad.

What was this guy supposed to do? Just Go Straight and Magically the Bridge would Raise up

I pull U-turns All the Time..Grant it its my equipment..But I would say i Do em' regularly.....As Long as there are no (no U-turn) signs,

Whats the Problem? So I lose a lil Rubber...I Dont Care

Point is, This Guy did the right thing By NOT trying to go under a low bridge in a stressful environment,

If you drive for who I think you do (looking @ the acronym's) then yes, plan on cleaning the truck out. That is a termination offense if it was reported. Sorry for the bad news.

Exactly what I was thinking, what the hell is this world coming to. This guy did nothing wrong other than use common sense. But no U turns are a big no no so the safety manager says, the one who has most likely never seen the inside of a truck. They would rather have you end up like the genius in the USA truck video. That is what these big companies are mutating this industry into. You need to beat that guy with a baseball bat to the knees that ran back and cried to the safety department as well. That would certainly give you a DAC report worth framing.
