My husband went to work for Marten Transport a scant week and a half ago. After much delay, he finally got his first load. He had a tire blow out last night (line/driving tire?). Anyway, it's the inside tire on the dual tires. He must not have down-shifted/braked correctly, as the brake pads needed to be replaced. Now, I'm sure he screwed up, but Marten is letting him go!? I've heard of their point system, but this seems overblown; no pun intended!

    Do you think they're justified?

After reading this ,you start to scratch your head and wonder what the full story is.
Because the way it is told now it makes no sense. :?::?::?:

That's all the info I had. By the way, you'll see that I said in my post he must have braked too hard. I agree, he must have braked too hard and blew the tire... not to be dense, but does that warrant being terminated?

I have to agree that we do not have all the facts. A blown tire is road hazard. Brake pads need to be replaced from downshifting? I have never heard of that either.

What I believe could be happening is that your husband my have messed up and does not want to tell you the whole story. My advice is to just support him and have him find a new company. We all make mistakes in the beginning. Let him keep his pride and move on.

Braked to hard and blew a tire because off that?
Now that would be a first.
Your hubby isn't telling it like it is.

Let me guess,he ran his brakes till they were smoking and red hot.
That might explain the tire exploding.
Which is quite something else that just "braking to hard".
And that would get him fired because that does mean he has no bussiness driving a truck.
    Sorry.

If I sent the picture, then YOU'D be knocking on my door! :yes2557: You can't handle the truth!

Regarding what my husband told me, I think I must have phrased it incorrectly. I put that he must have down-shifted/braked incorrectly, which is why the pads need to be replaced. In essence, is that not saying he braked too hard, or, did not down shift...that's what happened to the tire? If not, let me clarify, that's what I meant.:biggrin_25517:

All I can think of is how bad it must look to put down you worked for a company for all of a week and a half, and then got terminated for such a thing!

I would not want him for a driver.
And for your sake..................tell him to find another career.

Really professional. Lady comes with a question and concern and this is what she has to put up with. Really, thought this went out in grade school.

Not sure about California Law but if its an Employ at Will state, theres probably nothing you can do. That's how our state is set up. A lawyer once told me he could walk in his front office and fire every employee he had and didn't need an excuse. He said hed be crazy if he did but that he could do so lawfully. Id say he will just have to find him something else, sadly.
