I was in a rest area on i81 in ny today north of Binghamton. heard a guy on the cb asking for a jumpstart, I told him after i went to restroom I would jumpstart him.

this was around noon today, and turns out he had been calling out on cb and trying to flag down drivers in the rest area since 11:30 last night. the guy was driving a freightliner with a loaded flatbed.

after trying to jump him, it still barely turned over, i told him we had to remove his battery cables, he said why? i said we got to load test your batteries. he says how? i said i got a battery load tester . well then after testing i discovered that 2 of his batteries were bad and he only had 3 to begin with.

i told him we could jump it off til i ran out of fuel and it wouldn't help.

i then told we could take couple of my batteries out to start him and then put em back, but during this he had called the guy he worked for and the sob finally agreed to call a tow service to bring him batteries.

all in all i took up about 1 and 1/2 hours helping this guy out. when i went to leave he tried to pay me with two twenties, i refused and told him to save that 40 bucks and use it to pay it forward next time he saw someone in need for anything.

he to me is the sad part, they guy thought i had done something special, when in reality what i did is for me the normal way to be and what everyone should do.

it is sad to me this guy waited 12 hours for someone to help out.

it is a sad state of affairs when this has become the norm.

I don't think your the only one who would have helped out, but your probably one of the few that wasn't under the time clock to get somewhere. Not everyone in this world is a total schmuck. IMHO.

It's even sader that he works for such a cheap owner to leave him there that long before calling service truck. That guy needs to find a different company to work for.

Drivers just don't care about anything or anyone anymore. Thats why most of the motoring public hates us. Its very very sad my friends

Something similar happened to me on the NJ TP last year , I had my APU just serviced by a Thermoking authorized dealer who obviously did something incorrect , it ran until 2 hours until the end of my break , it literally ran my batteries all the way down. My heavy duty jumpers which I normally carry were not with me at the time so I started to ask every trucker there , one trucker had a small set which probably wouldn't jump a car then I found a man who jumped me , I paid him $40.00 but he refused. I forced it on him , he saved me from calling an authorized towing company who would have had to tow me off the TP rest area to their garage. I know it has something to do with good Karma as if I can help I always do , it just seems people don't care anymore about the next person.

Another driver helped me out once with a jump in Miles City MT. But the starter was stuck in a flat spot so it didn't help. I appreciate the gesture though.

60% not my problem, call a wrecker
    80% don't carry jumper cables
80% never work on an engine in their life.

If they are running that tight they aren't managing their time right. Sure there are a few tight ones but for the most part drivers have an hour or two to spare if not more. In 24 hours there should of been 24 drivers that could of helped.

On the other hand if the driver paid attention to his gauges he would of noticed a problem. Them batteries didn't go bad over night.

Welcome to the new generation of drivers.

    Kudos to you skateboardman!

Hence why I already bought a set of 2 gauge for my future truck. But then I keep stuff in my POV as well, so I like to think that I can plan ahead for basics.

    CondoCruiser and KF7WTV Thank this.
