| Reply Wayne If you guys want to interview truckers thats a good idea but if you really want to find out about truck drivers or what's it like out on the road I suggest you pack up your cameras and go for a ride with a trucker or truckers not for a day or two but for at least two weeks and if you want the whole story do like we do and go on the road for a month or two. I'm sure you'll have all the answers and film you will need after a trip on the road. Good Luck and would like to see the film when you're done. | A trucker for 37 yrs & have drove from the top of the world - Prudhoe Bay Alaska Hi My name is Bob & I've been driving trucks since my uncle let me haul hay and cattle as a teenager. I moved to Australia in 1967 and learned to drive trucks in the out back for the Gas & Oil fields. I've drove Army trucks both in the US and Europe. Ater getting out of the Army I came home and got my CDL (we didn't call them that in those days) in 1971 and have had an active CDL ever since. I've driven as far north as Prudhoe Bay Alaska in the oil fields to south of the border into Mexico. That was driving in Mexico 35yrs ago not like today. I've driven Tankers (Petro. products, Haz-Mat,) Bulk tanks (cement, sand, & etc) Dump trucks, Vaccumm trucks, Milk tankers, Flat Beds, Dry Vans, Refers and Specilized Heavy Equipment. I've been a company driver, company trainer, a truck school instructor and an owner operator and back to a company truck driver now. I've been doing long Haul since 1996 after the kids were all grown up & thru college and on thier own. I figured I had see most of the other countries and decided it was time to see the good O'l USA!! I lost my wife after only being on the road for one year so most of my time I'm solo or had a student some times. Last edited by Cybergal; 07.27.2008 at 06.25 AM. | So, does anyone know what happened to this project? I just recently saw a 90 minute documentary that was available on my cable company's On Demand movie listings (it was free to watch too!) called "Big Rig". I'll have to see if it is still on there. I was not very impressed with that one. It did follow and interview a variety of drivers, but did not deal with anywhere near enough issues. It didn't even show too much of what a driver really has to deal with. It did somewhat, but could have been done much better. My dad said he bought the movie, so apparently it is available on DVD. |

| Yup, it's on dvd at Wallyworld. I bought it about a month ago and I did enjoy seeing it, but you're right, not enough of the day to day on it. I liked the begining, when the guy at the produce warehouse just gets in and out in no time flat. Like that ever happens!! But overall, if you had never seen the world through the windshield of a big truck, it could be rather entertaining.

I would be interested in talking with you! I tried to send you a PM, but it appears that you do not receive them(?) Talking to an "old retired lady trucker" would be very, very interesting. Cheers. **By the way, I'm not the documentary film maker, I'm a graduate student.
