First time I've had to hit the new England area, they routed me up 95 and I've never really been so didn't know. then talked to brother and he said 287 and the tappen z would be easier. Currently in Hyannis mass. And know more then likely I'll be heading back that way today or tomorrow.

Depending on the time of day and traffic conditions on the Cross Bronx, you can save about an hour by using I-95 and the GWB.

Anytime I'm running that way(which is very seldom) I use 287.Less of a headache with traffic and cheaper on tolls

Up in Hyannis and still waiting to unload but thinking more then likely I'll be sent back down that way. Don't know if hit every one trying to get home yesterday or what but took darn near 2 hours just to get from where 78 and 95 connect to about mid Connecticut.

I'd just ride 95 right through ... although my opinion may be biased because I try to always do it through the middle of the night ...

You hit the nail on the head. It's a horror show on Fridays & Sundays. On the other other 5 days it just plain sucks. Welcome to New England. Be sure to try the chowda.

If I can go middle of the night I go straight thru on 95.

If it's daytime I go around.

If you hit rush hour on either end it's a pain no matter which way you go.

Sounds like your brother knows what he is talking about. The Tappan Zee is almost always better during the day time. If you do go that way, the only extra tip I could add is taking Hwy17 south from 287 back to I-95. A lot shorter than going all the way around 287. Jump on it where 287 crosses the NY/NJ border and take it south to I-80 east and back to I-95. It's all 4 lane and no lights, and a Pilot truck stop if you need it.

DO NOT STAY ON 95 IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE DRIVING THROUGH NYC IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! lol.... There is like a 3.5 hour window where it will only be like 3/4 of a headache...
12:30am-4:00am.. You are SERIOUSLY better off taking 287 all the way around... Especially if you have to pay your own tolls
