ok so i have a decent gig now with swift/central. more central side than swift. home daily weekends off. full weekends too the whole saturday and sunday. hourly paid 70 hrs. i have a new job lined up. same beneifts. but im worried about change. i know my company well, dispatch, truck, everything. smaller company too like 100 maybe less. I just am worried I am doing the wrong thing. Pay should def be higher its % pay and this company after a year or less im going to be a o/o with them. Just saving some more money and want to learn their ways of doing things. my checks are like 800 after taxes now. so im def good. the other company def should be more from what i see. just worried about change.

Sounds like you have a pretty good gig now. I'm sure you have some long days, but if you are use to a larger company atmosphere, you may be surprised by what you may be expected to do at a smaller company. The smaller the company, the more flexible you need to be. The orientation at a small 50 truck company I ran for consisted of being told that there were no excuses for being late and then they issued me three log books and a case of Red Bull! :biggrin_25511:

its a great gig. but i want to be a o/o and id rather be a driver first and learn their stuff first. and ya i know what you mean about the flexibility stuff. but thats why i wanna be a o/o so i can have choices. but ofcourse at first its company. but from what i hear from my relatives who work there it isnt like that.

As an owner operator i personally would not lease my truck on to a company that has company drivers/their own trucks.

That's probably great advice, as you know they will keep their trucks running, and the O/O's will get the crap that's left over. Quite frankly, if you are giving up an hourly pay job for %, you might want to get a name of a good psychiatrist.:biggrin_2559:

That's true, I did a lot of % stuff too, but I liked getting paid to sit somewhere while waiting.

lol, well my goal isnt company driver its o/o but i decided to learn the rail business, new dispatchers, customers before i go and my a truck. also things at central are changing from swift. i dont know if my position will be changed we lost lots of contracts in Illinois from them. i like getting paid sitting. i dont like to look at people but my cousin when he was hourly same position as me was like ill never leave this great job. well he left to the place im going and he said he wishes he did it sooner. he said you would be suprised how much more you can make. i love my position but if my goal is o/o why not learn the position first then buy the truck.

here is what i dont get then. why do people say swift is a bottom feeder if my position is all of a sudden better than a small company?
