OK we all know that tire chains are to be used "Only to hook end to end to pull good looking girls in 4 wheelers out of the ditch"

    BUT I SUGGEST!
Take your chains out and make sure they are in good shape and they are the correct size before winter sets in.
If you have never put on a set of tire chains go ahead and Practice putting them on when it is nice outside.
No one wants to thrown on the iron but you never know you might have to do it.

I was chaining up a couple winters ago about 2 miles east of Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 going west.
I was parked on the shoulder chaining in heavy snow when an other truck stopped beside me in the slow lane.
Driver got out in shorts and flip flops and asked asked me how to chain up,,,Told him to take his chains and just drape them over his drive tires and then drive off,,
Thinking about hanging iron is worse than actually having to do it.

I was chaining up at the eastbound Vail chain pull off and had nearly the same experience. Poor driver was holding up a pile of chains with the most confused and scared look on his face. I gave him a quick verbal lesson and got the heck out of there!

Tire chains are racist. Because white snow falls, you put chains on a black tire. Not cool.

When chains are required, a standard 5-axle otr truck with duals will need 8 chains to be legal in California (4 on front drive axle, 2 on rear drive axle, 1 on each trailer axle on opposite sides).

You need 7 to be legal in Washington (4 outer drives, 1 on trailer, & 2 spares).

Max chains are 4 drives and 2 trailer and washington requires 2 extra chains...8 total

Washington will stop you and count your chains...they have me..

When in doubt check the states web site

Landline magazine has a page for all the states that require chains. I have also had Washington state have me pull chains out and make sure they were the right size.
