I would like to know if you all think I'm being difficult or if I am being rational. I dropped off my load and grabbed an empty and was told to drive to drop yard about three miles away and hook trailer that is already loaded. Cool, drop and hook. Get to yard, drop empty and hook new trailer. Start pre trip of new trailer, ughhh..... no mud flap on drivers side. This drop yard is a place where we have rented a few spots so no maintenance dept or anything. Sent in message saying no mud flap can't take it. Get message back asking to take it and head to a truck stop to get it replaced. There is a loves about thirty miles down the road. My reply is no, I won't move trailer, it has no mud flap and I do not want a ticket. There are cops all over the place as a norm going that way. I can tell they are aggravated because the load may be late, but be aggravated with the person that dropped this trailer here without doing a post trip on it. So, I hear about now its going to add time to the delivery and so on. Not moving, send loves out here. Three hours later still sitting here and dispatch won't respond. In the two years I have had this cdl I have never been pulled over, never had a ticket and managed to keep my csa points at zero. I realize its just a mud flap, but it is a ticket for not having one and points I assume. So my question is, am I just being difficult or protecting myself as any normal person would?

should have taken one off the empty trailer you dropped, then just let them know the situation so they can send out someone to fix it before next guy comes for that trailer

I think you're being a bit difficult not to take it 30 miles. Hell, drivers [with the grace of God] will drive clear across the country and not get ticketed for no mud flap. Would not have been right taking a flap off of yours ... you'd have gotten dirty and passed the problem off to the next guy, too. Yes, I understand the CSA score thing and ticket risks and all that, but you are allowed to move the vehicle to the safest repair facility and this is hardly a major risk issue such as fire potential or brake failure potential.

If I had the tool I would have done what cglascoe suggested.Otherwise I would have chanced it and drove to Loves.Think how much its going to cost for that mudflap now not to mention you losing hrs load will be late and hard telling how long its going to take loves to get there.Your company should have tried to find someone closer.

I thought about taking a mud flap off the empty but drivers are in and out of here all the time. I just didn't want to burn the next guy. That empty is already gone and had I taken it, he would be sitting here waiting. I can't do that.

I had to re-read your post several times as I couldn't stop laughing!..wait..are you being serious?

first I cant believe your company would be willing to PAY Loves to install a mudflap for you and you said No?
You requested a road call service to come to your drop yard to install a mudflap?..

But now that you have been sitting over 2 hrs do you think ya shoulda just drove the 30mns and had one installed and already would be rolling?

allniter, Meltom, stabob and 1 other person Thank this.
