I ask this on the premise that we all have our personal time consuming needs: Laundry, Showers, Taking a dump, having a real breakfast/lunch/dinner, etc...

    So...

How does one manage their LEGAL time, and still be able to drive 11 hours in a 14 hour day, take their 10 hour break while trying to stick to the old trucker adage "keep the door shut and the wheels rolling"?

    I usually don't wash laundry.

When I do, it's only on my '10'. And never when I intend to take exactly a '10 hour break'
Showers, I try to take it during my 30 minute break which turns into a 1 hour break, but not when I'm in a hurry.

Pretrip and fuel first thing in my shift, that takes about 15 to 20 minutes, take off drive for about 6 hours give or take, stop where I want for my break, antwhere between 30 minutes to an hour plus. Take off again and finish my 11 hours. I dont always stop at truckstops, I stop where I want depending on where I am. So at this point Iam done for the day.

I may take 10 off, 12, 14 whatever depends on when my delivery or pick is setup. More than enough time.

Ten hours is more than enough time to eat, shower, relax, and get a good sleep.

As far as managing the 11 in 14, drive 5 or 6 hours, stop for lunch, may be at a rest stop, or may be at a truck stop, take my 30 minutes, roll for another 5 or so hours, fuel, Post trip, park, eat shower, rinse and repeat. Can do part of the post trip while fueling cleaning the widows, finish after parking. laundry when I have too much time on a load, and the receiver will not accept the load early.

So taking a dump would throw most of these schedules off. I mean I can usually hold it for a while, and then take it at the end of my 11, but it's not fun. Mine take 15-20 minutes at least.

When I was OTR, this was my schedule.

6am, wake up, put my contacts in, get coffee, on the road by 0630

9am, 1st stop, check load, tighten straps/chains if needed, use the bathroom, get back on road by 0910

1230, stop for lunch, bathroom break, check load, on road by 1315

1500, check load, bathroom break, check where I'll be stopping for the night, on road by 1510

    finish my day around 1700.

I go shower, eat supper, do laundry if needed, and in bed by 2100, six hours of sleep and do it all over again the next day

This is just an example, some times may be off or activities I do in those times may differ.

LOL, I'm the same way, I need to have enough time to relax while I take care of my bathroom business

Now I hope all readers understand that my "taking a dump" concern is real and not a joke. I need time to get it out right too!

I agree, I'm serious, I'm the same way. I have slow bowl movements. I've changed my diet but it doesn't help. Oh well.

It is all about training your body... and nothing like unlimited showers for taking that leisurely dump.
