We are about to purchase a hooper trailer and are tryin to figure out the lightest combo. Would you want a short trailer tall sides or all short, ect? We will be hauling commercially so weight is everything. We know where going to buy a timpte or wilson, we're looking at some of the late 90s early 2000s. Any experience?

We run Wilson's. We have a '10 42 foot with the taller sides, aluminum front and rear frame. I can't remember how many inch it is. We have a '94 40 foot with short sides steel front and rear frame. The '94 weighs 800 pounds more then the '10.
Just something to think about. -
Huh. I knew alum wheels took off quite a bit. But I don't know if he wants to get an alum frame. But that was good info. What's the dry weight of the 94?

Any brand preference? What length and options would you suggest? We're getting the standard sides so our neighbor can dump in it too
-
Light commodities require tall and heavy your fine with short sides weight wise there was 4 or 500 lbs difference if I remember correctly ps a short side was better on fuel with a flat top bunk
-
And we will be hauling dent corn, soybeans, wheat, and I think that's it. What options would you suggest to get lighter? Do ag hoppers and stuff like that shave weight? Any other options we should look for?
-
Ok I read over that and it didn't sound right. What I'm asking is what options make them heavier and which ones make them lighter
-
Aluminum front and rear frames like I talked about earlier is probably your biggest weight savings. We switched ours to super singles and saved 400 pounds.

Check out Dakota Trailers. Based out of Yankton, SD. All aluminum hoppers with very large unloading slides. Ran a set of super b units where I could unload two hoppers into one unloading auger if I had them sitting just right.
