My brother is planning on putting in a Hydrogen Assist system in his truck. Have any of you used this technology and if so, what are your thoughts?

I don't know what system he's going to install, but I found one on a Google search:

Propane is more common in semis.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. The maximum theoretical efficiency for converting water to hydrogen & oxygen is 83%. PEM cells run about 40%.

From what I've read about propane systems any fuel savings for diesel is eaten up by the cost of adding propane, then you have the issue of where you get propane and the added hazard of having a highly flammable tank mounted on the tractor.

With hydrogen assist you are using a gallon of distilled water per 1000 miles, so the cost of the boost liquid is negligible. Distilled water is easily purchased at any grocery store, and it isn't flammable. The downside is how to keep it from freezing. My brother is talking about using salt water in his system, but I can't find anything about that.

I guess using salt water my question would be what about corrosion? And if you used plastic tanks or rubber lines then what about longevity? Where would the discarded salt go? And- admittedly I'm ignorant on this- where would you go for service? And how would it affect an engine if it was installed and non-functional?

Sounds like snake oil to me, but anyone feel free to prove me wrong. I'll do almost anything for a tenth.

I'm guessing that the salt never leaves the holding tank, only hydrogen and oxygen would get into the turbo. The salt would seem to be the answer to lower the freezing point of the water.

Again, have any of you installed such a system and if so was it worth it and did you see any performance or maintenance improvements?

Don't you think if these things work they'd be more common?

    True...

... which is why I'm asking for comments from anyone with actual experience with these systems.

just so ya know, water that has been saturated with salt (cant dissolve any more into it) freezes around -21deg Celcius. gonna freeze solid every winter
