Need some help on buying a CB

    Hello,

    I am just trying to find out if somone could advise me on which kind/brand/model of CB I should buy for my son for Christmas.

    I do not get out much and deaf- -some people out there do not like to "talk" to deaf people, so I thought if I coudl just ask people that use them all the time, then just go into a store and buy this, saves time basically.

    I know nothing about CB- -not one thing and I want to surprise my son. He has a nice Chevy truck, is not a trucker, and I want one that has the weather station and all, and will last. Plus what I do need to get with it?

    If anyone could suggest one, I would be grateful. I live in Palestine, TX and can go to Tyler to get this, not Dallas for sure. Palestine has one radio shack store but I do not like their service, kind of like one bothers them to go in there, plus no cb's on display.

    buy a cobra with blue tooth and a weather band,,some have weather alerts,,great for tornado country

    Tyler has CB City cb shop, but I've never been there.
    You might stop by and see what he has. Otherwise go to the Pilot truck stop and get a Cobra 29, they should have one with the Weather Band on it. I think.

    Then take it to CB City and get it peaked and tuned, it makes it more powerful, although some people will disagree

    Agreed on the ciabra 29. I have one. Durable, get a noise canceling mike and a wilson antenna.

    After you purchase everything you need, mount the radio and the antenna, then take it back to CB City cb shop and have them calibrate the antenna and radio together, it's called setting the SWR's, before he key's the microphone and burn up the finals, more then likely it's not going to happen, but better to be safe then sorry, that way you have done everything right !!!

    Wait till your at a CB shop. Find out what length the shop recommends for your CB/truck combination.

    This will save you on buying crappy cable at truck stop. As well the CB shop can recommend good locations to mount the antenna.

    On a side note. Go directly to a reputable CB shop see what CBs they have, it could save you more than buying from mega truckstop.

    I would suggest either a Cobra 29 or a Uniden 68. Both use the same board. Both have models with the weather bands. It is becoming more difficult to find the Uniden at some truck stops. I have found prices at most truck stops to be less than I have seen at Radio Shack. All you need is the radio, antennae and mounting brackets. You don't need to spend a fortune to get something nice. Radio and everything should be less than $150.

    I love my cobra with the Bluetooth built in. For those that don't like wearing headsets, a great option.
