Hey everyone! I have a couple of questions as it relates to driving history when changing jobs. A little background on me is that I have worked for the same company(world wide beverage company) for 20 years, last 16 years as CDL-A driver. I started there when I was 17, so it is really the only full-time job I have held. Without going into much detail, I will just say I am ready to move on to something different driving truck. With my current job, I am considered local(multi-stop deliveries) and don't travel more than 100 air miles from our warehouse. Because of that I don't have to fill out a log book unless I work over 12 hours a day. Until joining this forum a couple months ago, I had never heard of some of these background checks like a DAC.

I have had a couple of small incidents over my 16 years driving truck that I am wondering if I need to be concerned with showing up on some report like DAC, DMV, CMV since I will soon be fill out apps. I don't want to be turned down for a job because something might pop up in a background check that isn't listed on the app. Here are the things I am wondering if they would show up on any type of report out there:

    1. 22 years ago I got into fender bender with and received a ticket. (personal vehicle)
    2. 20 years ago I got a careless driving ticket(young and stupid).:biggrin_25513: (personal vehicle)

    3. 12 years I scratched the rear bumper of a car at stop light. No police or ticket, but did have to file report with my company's "Job Hurt Line". (work truck)

    4. 6 years ago I got a ticket for running an orange light in my work truck. I plead not guilty and won because cop never showed up to court. Ticket was dismissed.

    5. Last year I had a woman back into the side of my trailer. No police or ticket, but did have to file with "Job Hurt Line".(Company policy to file report for any type of physical/vehicle indecent that happens while on the job)

I also did get a write up earlier this year for going over my 60hr(by 2 min) work week limit.

    My questions are:

Will I have to worry about any of these showing up on any type report or background check out there?
What exactly is a DAC and who is it for/cover?
Considering I am local, would my company even have a DAC report on me?
What if any other reports or things do I need to check before applying for a new job so I can be honest and not have to worry about any surprises?

    Thanks

Here is the most useful thing I have found on this forum. DAC is now called HireRight.com. I went to HireRight.com and filled out an online application to get a free copy of my DAC. A week later, a lady called me and asked if I wanted a detailed report or just a report that potential employers will see. I went with the latter, since the lady implied that I would get it quicker. About a week later, I received a copy of my DAC in the mail. After seeing it, I realized that the non chargeable accident I had been reporting was not there for employers to see. I was also able to match my starting and ending dates with previous employers. Very helpful. When you know what is on your DAC, you can fill out driver applications with more confidence. As a general rule, I will go out on a limb and say, if you did not receive a citation at the scene of an accident, it "never happened." Good luck.

Just be honest when answering questions. Hireright isn't the only company out there.

You have an impressive work record. Not many stay at a job that long.A DAC report is what companies use to check on drivers performance with other carriers. So say you drive for a mega carrier and have an incident like hitting something, that company will put on your DAC that incident or if you have a service failure that will go on your DAC.Most the carriers use DAC and they look up your dac and see what garbage companies put on it. Incidents 1,2,3,4 happened so long ago that won't affect you finding another job.Number 5 wasn't your fault so no worries there. But you going over your hrs by 2 minutes, now that's alarming.Seriously though that's nothing.I think itll be easy for you to get another job.

With your work history and those being extremely minor, you're fine. And probably at the top the "pecking order" when it comes to being hired somewhere. Thank you for your professionalism and good luck in your new adventures.

If I was a person hiring this guy would be at the top of my list. Anyone who can remember all of those incidents and when they happened must be organized.

Thanks. I will check out that site.

Thanks for the nice compliment. I wish I could stay longer, but my body won't hold up for another 20 years until I can retire.

I have been told I am pretty anal about things.:biggrin_25519:
