Since you don't say where your at, it's hard to help, but I'll give my $.02. So, intermodal is going to be generally a true 99% to 100% drop/hook, no touch type of freight. The biggest hassle will be dealing with the railroads and container depots. You'll be hauling equipment that ranges from above average to junk, lately, the rail controlled chassis seem to be in very good condition, while the steamship owned stuff is marginal to junk. I've been doing it for 17 yrs, I enjoy it, but the company all makes the difference, and I typically have 4 good days for every 1 bad day with my company. I would personally not do a lease purchase with any company, I would also want to seriously know what pay rate they are giving for O/O's. Typically, in my area (Colorado), O/O's are lease operators, and they are paid 70% to the truck. So you figure it out from there.

As you said, you'll typically be home nightly, so however you feel about that.

thx for your advice , and im out of Georgia and would be running GA,AL,TN,SC........and the lease and O/O are paid 76% and the company drivers range from $700-$1000 wk($1000 working 6 days).............. the flatbed company is out of florida all company drivers pay around 27%-29% of the load and typically running the SE states home every two weeks with occasional home weekly

So, in my area, the lease operators are getting between 70 and 74% to the truck. Then take all your expenses and your salary out of that. I will say that if they are saying your gross for 6 days is $1,000, that's not bad for a starting wage for intermodal. I'm doing between $1,100 and $1,400 gross for 5 days, some weeks a little more.

cool.....i think i will have to sleep on it a night or two then decide....the intermodal pays less but home every night, the flatbed guarantees minimum 55k yr and 1300-1600 weekly gross and i dont mind hitting the road
