Well I'm progressing in my career; got about 14 months in pulling doubles and dry van in a union position, and now I've been offered a union position pulling food grade tankers. I'm thinking ahead and was wondering where those Union jobs are hauling fuel or chemicals?
The particular areas I'm looking for, in order:
1) SF Bay Area: Richmond all the way down to San Jose and the peninsula areas.
2) Seattle, WA and surrounding areas
3) Portland, OR
Give as many leads as possible you old salty experienced million mile super truckers.
Where are those union fuel/chemical hauling jobs??

I will tell you this much about union fuel hauling jobs and chemical hauling jobs in my area. There ain't any. Most of the BIG fuel companies here, Motiva, Mobil/Exxon, Sunoco, are not hiring anymore, and are instead contracting out the hauling nowadays. And those private fleets are certainly not union, but do pay close to union wages and benefits. We have here also at least 2 chemical companies. One is non union the other, as drivers retire, they hire from driver leasing companies. I know, I try each and every time to apply, and gave up. But in YOUR area, union jobs for hauling such, may still be available, so I wish you well.

To say I'll be watching this thread CLOSELY: would be an understatement.

If you already have a LTL job, why would you want to quit? Not to sound like I'm being biased, but outside of LTL, there really isn't anything worth while. Those fuel haulers are working 70 hour weeks to make what you're making in 48 hours.
Youre one of the lucky few that got the prime of the litter to start with. Stick with it. There ain't much else better out there. Trust me. -
I don't have an ltl job

lee and eastes is union out where you are at, and all the cryo companies are teamsters at most locations. praxair, linde, air products, air liquide, univar, etc...
have you considered going down to your hall and talking to a business agent? they would know before anyone else. Praxair over here is making 6 figures with great benefits and big pension, from what i hear.Have a buddy over at Linde, he loves it, 80k or more a year, good bennies through the union, pension, etc.... -
That's what I had in mind. You said they are union in the SF Bay Area?
-
well anyways, union is a big plus but we cant always have our cake and eat it too. what about the highest paying fuel/chemical or cryo companies in the SF Bay Area, Seattle or PDX areas?
-
You are going about this the wrong way. Start calling companies, or better yet go in in person and talk to people. Ask about job openings and pay scales. We can't do your research for you.
G.Anthony and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Like it was said before contact your BA. He deals with these companies regularly and will know who's hiring and who isn't.
already gone and Shaggy Thank this.
