Not asking about those who live in their truck or hotels.
Asking about those that have a dwelling and a family to go back to.
Met a fellow the other day that said he had been out over 3 months. You could tell the road was getting to him. He was argumentative with the consignee. He was acting goofy around the other drivers.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
What is the longest time away from your 20 you have been out?

Are you sure the road was getting to him or was he born that way.
Hammer166, browndawg, Flybynight041 and 5 others Thank this. -
most of the time 21-30 days..... but have stayed out 3.5 months
home right now, when i leave will be out for 5 weeks -
3 weeks......with a 'home weekly' company lol
now it's no more than a week with a truly home weekly gig. Works well for me. 5-6 days I'm ready to get to the house then 2 days there and I'm ready to go again. -
3 months a couple of times when I was an o/o. One time was no problem, because i had a lot of loads that went through home and I could spend a night or two, or passed through cities I had friends and some time to kill. It wasn't like I was in the truck every night.
One time, though, I noticed I was feeling strange after a couple of months. This was before the internet, and cellphones. I finally realized I had gone the whole period without running into a driver I knew, being able to visit some friends, or even going to a shipper or reciever who knew me.
The trucking I was doing then was all live loads, blanket wrap stuff, and it wasn't unusual to spend most of the day loading/unloading, going out to lunch with the customers, hitting a bar with them at the end of the day, etc.
You also socialised a bit more with some of the company drivers, since we tended to get stuck without loads for a few days.
Unless you had a pager, or your family knew to call your company, you were cut off from the world.
If there was an emergency at home, your family called your dispatcher, who would tell you to call home the next time you called in, which was at least 2 times a day.
BIG contrast to what we see now, when you can't take a leak in a truckstop bathroom without some jerk yelling into a bluetooth earpiece thing as he 'goes' next to you, or screaming into one as he fuels up. -
Longest i did was 23 days. It was this month december 1st to december 23rd. Boss wants me to go back monday.
I might quit if he pulls this stunt again.flood Thanks this. -

I start getting ready to go home after 3 days. Longest stretch was 3 weeks and wasn't happy about that at all. That 2 or 3 or more months is bs you dont have to put up with that junk
