This is a hypothetical situation but I think it will be fun and very informative if we can get knowledgeable people to join in and give us a hand with price quotes for parts and and hours for labor to accomplish what we want to do.

As the ad says it is a 1999 KENWORTH W900L for $28900

I know that is a bit overpriced what do you think this truck is really worth?

here is the ad i know it is a little older but trying to stay before 2003 and I think on a older truck with high miles you could really deal on it since it needs some work.

    http://www.truckpaper.com/listingsdetail/detail.aspx?OHID=5749645

so this is our hypothetical truck with a million 3 on it for miles and lets assume nothing has been done to it and it could basically use everything.

It has the per emmision 12.7 Detroit I want and a 13 speed so we are good there and it has the other necessary comforts also.

So what i will do is build a series of columns and spell out what we want to replace or rebuild and as the prices and hours pour in from the knowledgeable people I will update the columns so hopefully in the end we will be able to show what this would cost in time and money.

It will be interesting to see what this will cost compared to buying a Glider kit

So this is the following items we will rebuild or repair or replace.

The motor which as a whole is referred to as a long block this is a motor with the head installed on it and a short block would be no head installed on it for those who don't know this.

1 Factory rebuilt Detroit long block
    2 Factory rebuilt 13 speed
3 clutch, pressure plate flywheel throwout bearing and anything else while you are there.
4 Two new rebuilt or re manufactured rear differentals
5 New front axle with with brakes drums and springs and bushings
    6 New Turbo , starter waterpump,altenator AC compressor,air compressor
7 injectors if new longblock does not come with them
8 new brake lines and Air lines ran throughout.
    9 New rebuilt fifth wheel
10 new ujoints and balance driveshafts
    11 new hiFlow mufflers
12 new radiator and air cooler if warranted
13 While the engine is out pressure wash and sand or blat and paint frame.
13 paint cab and sleeper . Nothing fancy it is not a show truck
    14 new front seat
    15 new airbags
16 inside of sleeper modified for toilet and small galley and updated interior.
17 new door and window seals
18 tires and lets go with super singles with rims
19 new rear brake parts and drums
20 new steering box and universals

So there we have it did I miss anything?

Please participate if you have any suggestions or knowledge to offer.

So to start our project we would pull the sleeper off and than the cab and set them aside along with taking off the hood.

What kind of time will we need to do that job

Next pull the engine with the tranny still attached and set it aside. hours?

pull differentals and front axle. time?

strip frame of fifth wheel and air and brake lines and wiring harnesses. time?

pressure wash and degrease frame and all other parts taken off

sand frame and sand blast any rust

prime and paint frame with Epoxey

Having all new parts is nice and all but I'd have a problem replacing parts that may have many miles left in them.
If you're going to pay someone else to do this all it will cost a fortune.
I'd say over 10,000$ for paint. My peterbilt body shop quoted me 3500 to paint a sleeper that needed no prep work and was off the truck already.

If you do the project just remember to buy the right insurance coverage it would suck if something happened and you went 60,000 in the hole .. Otherwise it would be a sweet truck

Your sights are set on overkill. Honestly I think your better off with a glider as posted

I'm not a novice in this field, I have built trucks for a living. Now if you tone down your new list such as not a new axle but have the eyes bored and bushings installed along with new king pins and bushings in the spindle you have covered all moving parts.
Price on trans and rears can't be given accurately because you didn't post model numbers.

130 000 for a glider i think we will be half that when done if we could buy that truck for twenty thousand to start
