Had to sit in a class and these new guys going to work for other companies are in there with me gushing over making 30k a year.
They were pushing that lease deal on the guys going to the megas hard too saying they are going to make 300k a year, etc My B.S. meter went through the roof, but I am working local so I don't care, but now I see why wages are so low and how new guys get screwed with smoke being blown up their rears.
My company covers my training but they were also saying if these other guys going to the megas got their cdl and didn't work for their company that would take their license away. I am pretty sure that is illegal as they are not an issuing body but I am going to talk to some officials and get the scoop on that. Sounds like that should be illegal to even say that if it's not true. Like impersonating a cop.
No wonder truckers are paid so little!

I started when I was 21, at $30k/year that was the most money I've ever made. So I was extremely excited.
As for the lease deals, they could make $300k/year but probably won't take home even 10% of that.texasbbqbest, joseph1135, Milkman719 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think 30k is probably for a lot of those guys but none of them factored in 168hr work weeks(You're on company time 24/7 OTR) so that is chicken feed in reality.
Also couldn't believe how ill studied some of those were. One guy didn't even know what a pre-trip was! I was floored at how little research or studying those guys did before signing up. Only 1 other person had their permit already like I did. -

They made it sound like they were going to take home 60%+ of that. In fact they said only 40% most would go for fuel, maintenance, etc Which could be true idk, but from what I read that is not the case in most situations.
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
A lease op earning $300K/year? Even if you could make 3500 miles per week, every week of the year, that's still less than $200K at $1/mile - which is more than almost all of the megas pay for their mileage based lease ops...
