I was wondering about this when I fueled up today.

When topping off your tanks do you...

... stop on a even gallon? For example, 146.000 gallons,

... stop on an even dollar? For example, $410.00, or

... just stop when the tank is full? For example, I don't give a rat's arse about that stuff, the tank is full.

I stop on even gallons because it makes it easier to deal with on the IFTA quarterly reports. Personal preference.

I have to stop on an odd number. Say 57.114 would be perfect.
I'm not insane, I don't care about the thousandth being even.

    or should I ?

I have no method to my madness. It just depends on how I feel. Sometimes I just fill one tank and pay cash throw the reciept away.

Company driver so I usually try to stop close to the Gallon.
Have to write it down on some paperwork, they really only want the Gallons.

First time I fill up in a low tax state for the quarter, I stop at X.499 or as close to it without going over. For the rest of the quarter I stop on even gallons. In high tax states I stop at X.500 first time in the quarter & then whole numbers afterwards.

IFTA rounds up to whole numbers so you get a ~$10 tax benefit...

I keep pretty close track of my fuel economy... a fill is whatever it takes to the round part of the notch in the antisiphon inserts. Otherwise, if I'm trying to stretch it to a lower price fuel stop, a whole gallon number... but always 50 gallons minimum to get the free shower.

IDK DY... a 10-cent savings on IFTA tax ain't worth the trouble of thinking about it.
