Can I break up my 34hr restart with up to 30 drive for personal convenience? If so what section is it in federal rules and regulations?

Land star has 2hr limit for off duty driving. How do I log that on paper log?

If you're already logged on off duty, leave it be.

I take it there isn't a line 5.I would ask your log dept to make sure it's done correctly.

My friend is with Landstar. You should have a line for Personal Conveyance, and it will not break your 34. Just make sure you log it on line 5/ personal conveyance.

Landstar is Elog for new hires and you can volunteer for elog if you have been here long enough to still be on paper logs.If you are on paper logs then log it as line 1 off duty. You can notate it in the comments section as personal conveyance. On elogs there is a status for off duty driving but use it wisely as they do monitor it and will take it away from you if you abuse it.It is off duty driving but still off duty so I have used it as part of my 34 with nothing ever said.

Company driver for Superior...We have line 5 off duty driving to use for personal conveyance. With the Qualcomm, if you start driving without setting it as off-duty driving it will switch automatically to on-duty driving after xx miles (set by your carrier). I forgot to do this once during a 34, and had to call up log ops and my home terminal to get it fixed. Was a pita. If you don't have the line 5 and you are on e-logs I would double check with your carrier if you can drive without it logging it on duty.

So we have some companies out there (such as LandStar and Superior mentioned in this thread) recognizing the concept of "Personal Conveyance", and supporting it with a "Line 5" in their logs, etc. If that's the case, this concept of Personal Conveyance must be addressed and defined somewhere in the FMCSR's. Where is it?
