How does your company calculate your miles?

Companies pay on different miles and that is in the contract with the shippers. Some pay door to door, Rand Mcnally, some pay house hold movers (zip code to zip code) others pay the shortest route, in any case dispatch should inform you on the paid miles and if they are with in 10% that is normal. Keep in mind and get some insight from a CPA that does truckers, miles not paid for are tax deductible.

 

A company typically has to pick a system and stick with it so more than likely your company isn't likely to change anything for you. Kudos to you for mentioning that it occasionally benefits you, most drivers will skip over that fact. With X number of drivers to keep track of you have to choose one system and go with it. Many drivers will go five or ten miles out of route to swing by the Wal-Mart or wherever which most companies have no issue with but they aren't typically inclined to pay for those miles. Drivers that are poor trip planners can add a hundred miles to there route then show up at payroll and wonder why they didn't get paid for them when the directions, gps, and qualcomm all told you to go a different way.

Near as I can tell they have a large board in dispatch with random numbers on it, they toss a dart and whatever number it hits is what I get paid for.

starting mileage is subtracted from ending mileage thats what we pay, plus stop pay, and whatever cash incentives they attempt to bribe me with..

we ain't on mega fleet miles..

You're not going to be put under a magnifying glass.Your concerns are perfectly valid and you should talk to someone in charge about it.They'll give you a reason why they pay that way but don't ecspect it too change.

 

Practical miles. I've honestly never checked to see how far off they are, but I don't think it's by much unless I take the scenic route.
