Hey guys. First time heading to California. Loading out of Houston heading to San Jose. What would you guys suggest is the best route. Taking I10 out or going on I40? Any other info would be apreciated. Any thing to be aware of? If anyone has been to Chevron in San Jose even better.

I would take the 10 all the way, more flat ground and warmer, then 57 to 210 to 5.
Also to me 99 is a horrible drive, too many speeding refers and slow pickup trucks.
I do agree with taking the 580, the Gilroy scale scares me!. Somewhat beware the Banning scale, have all your ducks in a row.
In California stay in two right lanes, especially where you see warning signs (hills). Watch your speed, I always drive 62mph but do so at your own risk.

I would roll I10 to the Cali state line cut up to I40 @ Blythe to Needles.

Roll I40 to Barstow, hit CA58 to Bakersfield to CA99 north then CA46 west.

At lost hills you need to make a choice:
You can take I5 north to I580 and roll back down to San Jose but that is Santa Nella scales and 2 passes FILLED with 4 wheelers.

I would continue out CA46 to US101. One less stupid pass and a mostly clean shot, other than the Gilroy scales

Keep in mind that urban commute time starts about 04:00 out here. A bunch of folks run East Coast hours to service that part of the country. And yes they drive 2 hour commutes.

10 to 57 to 210 t0 5 to 152 to 101. to San Jose Shortest route to San Jose. 1885 mi This route is through heavy traffic in the San Berdo to Pasadena area during daytime.

If you take 580 you are driving 35 minutes north and then 15 to 30 minutes back south to san Jose during non peak driving times. During peak driving times it can take 2 more hours in heavy traffic.

blythe needles I-40 route 1937 miles 2 lane on 95 and spots of 58. Scale outside Mohave.

blythe needles I-40 to hwy 46 route 1962 miles
2 lane on 95 and spots of 58. Scale outside Mohave 2 lane across 46

The big chevron refinery is up in Richmond.

    That one is 10 to 57 to 5 to 580 to 880 n to 80 e to 580 N to Castro st. note: 580 t0 880 to 580 is because of truck restriction on stretch of 580. 1927 miles
The other route in has a hazmat tunnel restriction. That one is That one is 10 to 57 to 5 to 580 o 680 to 24 to 80 to 580 to Castro.

    Valero refinery is in Benicia.

    Tesero refinery is in Hercules.

Santa Nella scale is closed at night. Gilroy is open more often & they're jerks. If you come over the hill from Santa Nella to 101 you can sleep the little truck stop @ Gilroy or at Casa de Fruita & you will have less traffic in the AM than you will going 580 to 680 to whatever. It's the Bay Area. There are no good choices, pick your poison. I'm delivering in Campbell Monday AM & my closest secret parking hideout is Fremont.

Good advice from above posters .. Don't forget to scale load in Texas to make sure your good on the kingpin to rear axle spread .. You don't want to spend a few days at a Cali scale like others have in the past

10, 210, 5, 580, 680. Just don't go through Pasadena during rush hour and you'll be fine. Not worth shooting up to i40 or taking the 138 around LA. Good place to shut down before running into San Jose would be Joe's on i5 exit 441. Or the brake check area on the 580 at the top of the hill before dropping in to Livermore.
