I have received a job offer for a position that would get me home on the weekends. The significance of being home on weekends is that I have a child. Now I've worked at the same Mega company for the last year and a half and while after talking with the owner I feel confident. I also have a little apprehension because all I know is dispatchers and waiting on hold and being a truck number haha. For those of you with experience working for a very small (in this case 2 truck) company am I making the right move.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

They only a child once. Be sure there idea of home weekends isn't run 1500 miles nonstop to get there Saturday night just to leave Sunday morning. Other than that go for it.

Be wary of the "We're all family" b.s. They may be family, but you ain't.

Hi Blacktop, I've worked for both and each has it's +'s and -'s. In a small operation, you feel like much more of the "team", where the boss of a big place, just can't be buddies with 500 drivers. While getting someone to listen to you in a small co. is better, actually getting something done could be another story.( truck repairs, day off, etc)Personally, I'd rather work for a small outfit, where my extra help wouldn't go unnoticed. Unless they have some regular freight, you may end up sitting more with a small outfit, they may or may not have the resources to keep you moving. Be careful with small outfit's, however, you may become "part of the family", and may be asked to do things that you may not get paid for, and that's where the ugliness comes in.

one thing I can say about a month and have company is your not a number, and I think you are treated much better and most likely will make more money. They may not offer benefits will retirement. I have children too and being away from sucks.....
