Maybe teqntexas would like to know what happened so he doesn't have it happen again somewhere down the road. "Think twice before engaging mouth."

 

I don't understand what I'm seeing. Is that a part of the sidewall you're holding? Did the sidewall separate from the tire? I say defective tire.

Sounds like your's was on the job.

As I understand by your description, you didn't have a blow-out, but rather
a rapid, but not an immediate, complete loss of tire pressure. Did you feel
anything in the steering prior to hearing the rumble?
Could the air leak have originated with the wheel?
Has Michelin issued any service bulletins concerning a possible defect in
the tire(s).
Recalls?

Losin' air pressure in any tire is serious, but a steer tire has the potential
to create more pucker factor, and I'd sure wanna know what caused a
steer tire to fail.

Really tough to get a real good understanding from a pic.....tires fail for all kinds of reasons&sometimes for no logical reason at all...
So to help(maybe)...Couple ??
How old is tire?

What does the wear pattern look like...hard to really tell from pic

How was trk handlin/reacting in the time leadin up to failure?

And you say you do a dedicated deal nightly....so who uses tractor otherwise?

 

Either it was severely under inflated at some time, or it got curbed just right at some point and began it's slow death. Pretty rare to see a healthy tire do that.

 

Hard for me to say. I have had sidewalls bulge, end result, defective steer, and both were replaced. Possible too that you may have hit something, maybe a pothole, or curb, and that lead to the tires demise. Just consider yourself lucky as you said, that you were NOT doing your normal 70 mph!
