Fact is i don't want to unload and they stick me with these flower runs. 9 stops 1500 boxes, to me that's worth 1k or more. Fug em.
So back to my question can I open a lumper service as a company driver and charge a rate competitive with all other lumper services. MOST LUMPER REQUIRE 125 EVER TIME so let's get 125 on 9 stops minimum. Dude I'm sick of being pushed around and if I can come up with a way to get every nickel I can out of these swine legally I'm gonna do it. So how bout some real answers? -
Why do you need someone to calculate that for you? -
However, don't expect the aforementioned "swine" to continue to issue you a paycheck to drive their truck. So, suck it up, put your big boy britches on, or find another company.
Or, perhaps practice your mad burger flippen skillz yo!MJ1657 Thanks this. -
I don't know why you can't open a lumper service. With oversized loads, sometimes brokers require that I submit permit invoices to them so they can re-imburse rather than have me quote them an "all in" rate. In these cases, the broker doesn't like to pay me for the time I spend acting as a permit service applying to the individual state's permit offices. So I send the broker a copy of the bill from my permit service....which happens to be my company. I've never dealt with a lumper, but it would appear that the situations are similar.
As Mudguppy mentioned above, your employer make not take kindly to your idea so you may want to take steps to ensure your employer doesn't ever figure out that you are the lumper service. I'm pretty sure a simple search of the sole prop's name will show them it's you. Same with a corp. Might have to consider a Delaware of Nevada company. IIRC, officers of companies domiciled in these jurisdictions can be anonymous.
Only you can say if it's worth it or not.
Question: Won't your employer get suspicious if, all of a sudden, the same lumper service appears at all 9 drops....right out of the blue? Won't your employer call the customers and ask who is unloading?MJ1657 Thanks this. -
You can certainly open a lumper service, that doesn't mean the receivers you go to will allow you to work on their dock once they find out you are now a business. Most places require huge insurance policies for lumpers. Then figure in the self employment tax and you will be better off taking that measly $270 the company offers.
Or better yet, rather than trying to swindle a company out of money just move on to greener pastures. -
Or, Quit and find another driving job. And at the interview ask if they haul plants/flowers. If they say yes, tell them your unloading fee is $1500.00 per trailer load. See what their response is.
