How to get a Union Job

There, you've hit it on the head. The biggest challenge unions face is the own reputations they have developed over the years. When I think of teamsters, the first thought that crosses my mind is corruption. Whether or not that is true today is debatable, but it's the very first thought, and they need to deal with that issue and redeem themselves in the public eye before they can ever hope to possibly regain member and leadership in bargaining.

 

I would like to get in to a union job a large powerful union like the teamsters would be a grate job, But what about a newbie fresh out of school? Are there companys out there that run union and get you home like Roadway does?

 

A large powerful union? The Teamsters? I think we need to get you a calender. It's now 2007!!! The Teamsters have been in decline for many years, and are concentrating what efforts they make on janitorial, hospital workers, and other like that. They barely acknowledge that truck drivers are part of their union anymore.

Except here in Boston Burky, and with one particular company, like I said.. it is weird it is almost like going into a time machine working here, it is still strong, I joined even though I am just sparing just to be able to say yeah I am a member because I got so sick of being asked "so joined up yet kid?"

 

Like I said except here in boston, the flag still flys high, the sunday mettings are filled and pouring out into the street, the funny thing is I am actually looking at a non union job and looks like I will be taking a non union job, I joined up thinking it would help get me hired full time instead of being stuck as a spare, I was told I would get enough hours to get and keep the union benifits that was 6 months ago and still not enough hours to get or keep bennys. I got dupped, I have a family so I have to have insurance and it is costing me about 1000 a month to carry, in a way burky is right though. even though the bennys are alot cheaper almost all the OTR companys are offering the same package except for the retirement, it just cost more, thats ok, because I would rather be happy working doing what I like and paying a bit more. for bens, I hate the job I am working, even though it is considered the frosting on the cake of trucking jobs at least around here. I dont like the work, it is real easy but god awful boring never go too far, I think 220 miles is the farthest store and thats it. i like to go long, so I guess it is not for me, and I hate slip seating too, dont know why I am so deep into this I am sure You guys could care less. Union this union that whatever I just want to be content and do the right thing for my family.
