Well,

It's a long drawn out story with R/S Body Co.

The long and short of it is that 90 employees got laid off near thanksgiving. And guess what?? I was one of them.

Anyhoo. I'm now working for a small company from Lawrence, KS called J.K. Williams LLC.

Beleive it or not, they are a good company. I looked at their safestat report and it was kinda high, but the company drivers are held to a much higher safety standards that their O/O's. (Too high if you ask me).

That's about it.

I'm glad I made it home about noon today.
Thanks for the info Brickman. I knew I could always count on an ol' bluegrass boy.

Anyhoo. Beleive it or not... All those years pulling end dump trailers, I've never had to climb into one. WELL............ Guess what???
I have to now. Man you should have seen it....... FAT, Outta Shape me, climbing the side of that truck like a big beached whale. Storming the trailer like it was D-day and the trailer was Normandy.

The owner Jim got a nice chuckle seeing me do it. I told him that if he wanted me to do that again.. He'd have to throw a bologna sandwich over the side to get me lured into the trailer. His response was "white or wheat??"
FUNNY STUFF

Anyhoo. I have my digital camera with me and will be adding some pictures for everyone soon.

I can believe it. Many a company out there worth working for is a small one. I've worked for three or four little outfits, one of which was pretty bad, but one turned out to be the best trucking job I had in my 'career'. That outfit was a little too good, come to find out later. They went bankrupt just before my second summer began with them.

As far as chaining goes, there is at least one place where you will be FORCED to chain. There's no sitting it out. You move or they move you. And just before they move you, they give you one of those little notes asking for a mandatory donation. I think the donation is around 300, and this donation isn't tax deductible. I'm of course talking about California, the CDOT, and the Donner Pass area.

It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

To be totally honest with you Tip. It wasn't my choice not to chain. Jim, the owner told me that it wasn't worth my life to get that load there. That in itself made me that much more confident in the comapny.

But I do know what you mean about the dreaded communist "Peoples Republic of California" I usually waited it out in Reno or somewhere near Sacremento before. Fortunately I was told that I'll probably go no further west than Colorado. Hopefully I'll get dumped off tomorrow. I have a load waiting for me in Denver going to Council Bluffs, IA. A Railroad load

Load of tie plates.

Well, driver, if you are heading back to Council Bluffs, your going to be driving in the white stuff the entire day. Because the storm has almost reached the Council Bluffs area. But, the up side of things, you won't be headed into the mountains. Just be careful around the I76/I80 interchange if the wind is blowing. I've seen so many trucks laid over there, that its scary.
