I have started using my own log sheets and I have thought about printing the following at the bottom:

The events depicted herein are fictitious. Any similarity to any real events are merely coincidental.

Think they would see the humour? :biggrin_25523:

My logs have been audited by my safety dept, various DOT's and MTO horror scale at Windsor, ON. Never been placed out of service, never got a ticket. My log book is legal every minute, every mile.
They told me that they suspected that I am cooking them, but, you are innocent until proven guilty.

They know that a lot of drivers are running illegal, but, for the most part they are people too. Be presentable, don't disrespect them, and you should be OK

    Cheers

That's right :) all you have to do is be legal(not truthful just legal. Huge difference) in the eyes of the law and play dumb, and in return they will play dumb and the the game keeps on going :)

I'm still learning about the trucking industry, but I'm very familiar with aviation. The FAA doesn't care whether an airplane is airworthy. When they check a plane, they go for the logbooks. :)

    i got a question

you have a 3am appointment in a certain town, you arrive at 10pm, (which is normal) you make your delivery, and you wait till your dispatcher gets in for a new load, he dispatches you at 8am, you start your day-illegal by the book

you have a 3am appointment, you arrive at 1700 the day before, thus at 3am, you can legally start your day, at which time, they finish with you by 6am, you wait till 8am for your new load, which is 2hrs deadhead, now you arrive there at 10am, you are loaded by noon and you can legally drive till 1700 (total driving time for a 14 hour day is 4hrs) - totally legal

you have a 3am appointment, you arrive there at the end of the day's 11 hrs of driving, thus, you get unloaded by 5am (2addtl hours of off-duty) thus you cannot start your legal day until 1500 hrs - totally legal

which of these would you do? (i may have missed a scenario)

What I would do is drive directly to the customer and go to sleep. On my log book I would show rcvr unload and post trip in the same 15 minute period before going to the sleeper. I would get up at the appointed time and turn in my bills then go sit in my truck. I might go back to sleep while the rcvr unloads the trailer but either way I would show sleeper berth and off duty time until my 10 hour break was satisfied.

Every driver I know of would do the same. Your out here to make money and the only way to do that is to "manage that logbook."

    valczer Thanks this.

i understand what "most" drivers would do, but i am really asking those who say "i drive and log legal all of the time"

because legally, once you left that sleeper and went in to deal with the customer, you are ON DUTY, and when you get back into the sleeper, you must restart your 10hr clock, otherwise you are lying on your logs

It's amazing how many of my loads and unloads coincide with my pre-trip or post-trip. :biggrin_25525:
