Unbelievable primexample......... Someone extends to you respect and civility, and then you turn around and kick'em in the nads. What an ingrate!

primexample...... I see you decided to thank me for my previous post...... I hope you mean it and aren't being sarcastic.

I have went down the Grapevine northbound all the way down 80,000lbs and pulled over and stopped. got out and checked the temperture of brakes and they were about the same as when i checked them at the top of the grade. i could hold my hand to the hub with no presence of any heat.
This forum was started about how to descend with out a jake brake. I believe most of the drivers on here except a few probably were even taught how to descend without a jake brake, and if they were taught they probaly dont do it since they have a jake, and if they really had to do it without a jake in the truck they would probaly do snub braking the only way they were taught once, cause one gear to high and your gonna smoke your brakes no if, and ,or, buts about it. Its a little different doing it, and knowing that you have the jake justin case something goes wrong, than not having one in the truck at all. -
GRAYMATTERS Thanks this.

Ya, primexample......... I understand....... we all have opinions and sometimes debate can become a little heated. So, sometimes, it's worth it to take a deep breath and let things cool off a tad.
Thanks for takin' a deep breath, and let me be the first to "officially" thank you. -
I have yet to drive an 80K loaded truck. I have yet to see a grade in said truck.
But the book learnin' taught snub braking.
THANK YOU to all the veteran guys for all your knowledge!!! -

I want to live to a nice old age. I ain't gonna wipe out on no mountain! -
Look, if you wanna learn how to drive in the mtn's, come play on Wolf Creek or Molass/Coal Bank/Red Mtn. or Douglas. It's how we seperate the truck drivers from the steering wheel holders. With or without jakes, your choice and if you really want to have fun, do it in the winter with chains on.
ironpony Thanks this.
