Have you got a CB? If you do, get on it at the local truck stop and ask some of them.

This is an ethnography on the work lives of truck drivers. As I mentioned before, truckers have a very unique occupation. They are absolutely vital... essential to the American economy, yet the average American has no clue about the web of federal and state regulations, long hours and demanding job conditions.

My hope is to illustrate these demanding conditions. While I doubt there will be any direct policy change as the result of my work, I do hope that it will shed some light on the difficult conditions that truckers face daily.

Merge Welcome Dan, it's good to know that somebody is watching

Just when we thought it was safe to come up for air, the researchers come out of the woodwork! Welcome Dan. Just teasing you a bit with that comment. I'm new here myself. I have found this forum to be a great resource for information. It certainly doesn't seem to have any other peers online that I know of for getting direct access to seasoned driver knowledge.

The next part of the study involves sitting down with some 'actual' truckers and talking with them. Does anyone know what would be the best way to get in touch with some drivers in the Denver/Boulder, Colorado area?
I live near Denver and have recently gone back to driving OTR. I'm home weekends, however. If you would like to talk send me an email. I think my email address shows up on this forum, otherwise send me a message.

Just be sure to interview a nice cross section of drivers: OTR, regional, van, reefer, tanker, flatbed, heavy haul (that would be me!) to get a good idea of what we go through out here.

Dont forget us poor city LTL drivers too! How about the farm truck drivers also?

Sorry, Etosha, I didn't mean to sound like I was excluding anyone. I was just trying to give examples.

I wonder what Socy Grad is looking for? It's a good theme, especially since (in my humble opinion) we are the largest, most important part of the economy. Some might build it, some might buy it, but if we don't move it, nothing gets done.

Lady Driver-

Thanks so much for your interest... I would love to chat with you about your experiences as a trucker, especially as a woman (I presume, judging from your screen name).

As for now, I don't think that either one of us can contact each other due to forum regulations, as we need 50 posts to be able to PM each other. I'll see if I can send you my email address through one of the forum staff members.
