| As for others- Yes, I would love to get respondents from all aspects of the trucking industry. Local drivers, OTR, OO's, dispatchers, etc. The more people interviewed, the better my overall portrait of the industry will be. For those of you who are not familiar with the process, these are anonymous, open-ended interviews. This means that they are more like a conversation than an actual "interview." This also means that your identity will be protected, and it allows people to be able to say what they want without fear of retribution from employers, enforcement officials, etc. And Heavy Haul Girl- You are absolutely right- This study needs to be undertaken because ya'll ARE INDEED the most important part of the economy, a fact that is barely recognized by the American public. Cheers. - Dan

| What type of research? Why are you researching truckers? They are pretty diverse group aren't they? That's a good idea - see if someone with more posts than we have will send me a PM. |

| As I've mentioned before, truckers have such a unique occupation, and are absolutely essential to the economy. What has been increasingly interesting to me is the "crunch" that truckers seem to experience. They seem to caught in the middle of the demands of their employers and the demands of federal regulations. Trucking is unique as far as this is concerned. For the study, I'm essentially going to be spending a lot of time "immersed" in the world of a truck driver in order to see what it is like, and I hope to get a first-hand look at how demanding the occupation actually is.

| Just out of curiosity, are you going to include what their families go through too? The worry when they're driving in a Montana blizzard, the being home for two or three weeks at a time without seeing them, the two or three days we do get to see them before they're out and gone again, the sacrifice of family time? It's hard on us who are here at home too.

Among the other things that I find that is so different, and amazing, about the industry is how you folks keep the family together. I guess it’s similar to folks in the military who have to serve overseas. I have noticed that there are plenty of wives and family members on here, and I would welcome input from anyone who is involved in the industry and would like to be interviewed.

| Just saw your post and a bell went off in my head. I have been holding a bunch of research myself for the last 16 years of being an OTR driver, I originally planned to write a book detailing the Trucking Industry since deregulation in 1984 and the massive hits we take daily on parking, bad roads, new idleing laws, split speed limits ect. Looking for a co/author if interested. I know nothing about writing books, but most everyhing about the Industry of Trucking..Gunney

These interviews can take place in person or over the phone, and can last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. The reason why we have to do it this way is so that I can protect the identity of the participants, as all interviews are conducted anonymously. If anyone would like to set up a phone interview, please PM me and I’ll send you my information.
