| What would you do? I'm approved to go to Roehl's school. Not approved for financing. Costs I'm set to incur are 3350 for the school and room, prob. about 200-300 for food, etc. I'm thinking 400 roughly to drive up and back. Plus license costs= a total of roughly $4000. Worst part is that only 2800 will be reimbursed. Either over the fact that I'm about to dump $4k, or some other feeling I am having, I just have a feeling that I'm going for it...the wrong way. I don't have 10 or 12 weeks to go to community college, and can't really afford to dump the money. I want to get hired at a good company and at a decent mileage rate, but am wondering if it wouldn't be smarter to go with a company that pays for the schooling and then keeps a portion out of your check each week. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! |

| Chief is right. If you're prepared to hand over 4K, a community college or other avenues might be a better choice. You can school during the day, work an odd job in the evenings. We have a Community College on the coast. That's gets $700 for the whole shooting match, less licensing fees. Takes 7 weeks. You cover housing and food.

| To elaborate on Cheif's post a little - talk to your local unemployment office about Workforce Investment Act. I went through a CDL school on it - they covered $4000 in tuition. I had to cover the books and permit/CDL stuff myself, but that's beans compared to $4000. They do have a list of 'approved' schools - that seems to be limited to the better quality schools. I'm not sure the how and why of it - but their list compared pretty closely to the one I'd made before applying. Took me 2 weeks to go from first application to having the approval letter in my hand. Pretty darn speedy for a government organization! Alternatively - I don't like those Roehl numbers any better than you do,and I don't have a clue about your personal financial record or why Roehl rejected your plea for funding. If you HAVE to go the carrier-paid schooling rout, check out Watkins & Shephard. I've heard nothing but good about them.

Just about got all the pieces put back together now, though. SHE has the job, and I'm about to have one. Neither is "high pay", but all I want is to pay the bills on time and set aside a bit for the future. Oh, and to take a ride on the space station.

| Coach, good luck to you......... There are a couple of schools in the atlanta area that could work maybe. I don't remember how far newnan is from atlanta America's driving force is in south atlanta and they charge $2400. if you pay up front. georgia also has a grant program that will pay for it in tech. college. all costs except for books i think. ga. has that program all over.......... check with financial aid you can work part time because i think the schedule is light.... at dekalb tech in atl. their schedule i think was m-th 8-3 So look at all your options i understand about the financial aspects to be locked in to. Good luck

| Coach - I think the program Jash is talking about is with WIA program (workforce investment act). I love it. I used it. Your credit doesn't matter.

| Jash WIA is a federal program, available in all states. Of course, that doesn't prevent states from having programs of their own.
