Thanks olhand, I would not have guessed about taking the lower level, use to the "no trucks on lower level" rule. I am pulling a normal 13'6 van tho guessing that doesn't make a diffrance?

I learned how to drive in NYC. If you can run NYC, you can run anywhere. It's not even that difficult, some like to make it harder than it really is. Just gotta pay attention more and be more aware. And by the way, not giving up my secret spots either. ;)

I dunno, I find Chicago to be a much bigger PITA than NY.

Maybe because I know my way around NY?

NYC gives out free truckers maps. Just have to contact them on their website and they'll mail you them. I usually get 10 or so at a time because I am there so much. They aren't perfect, but really take a lot of the guess work out of things. I also use google street view on my phone if I am wondering about how high a bridge is, of course in NYC bridge heights are so arbitrary. I have never been anywhere else that has so many mis-labeled bridge heights. Everywhere else 12'2" means the bridge is 12'2" high. On the BQE that sign means, "meh, trucks go under that all the time."

That was the craziest thing about NY. It isn't just the city with mismarked bridge signs, either. When I used to go up there, a guy that lived there told me there is a way to tell actual height by the sign itself, but it's been so many years that I don't remember what he said.

And I can't believe there aren't more accidents on the BQE. People drive like maniacs, speeding and wreckless, seemingly inches away from one another. And it always seemed there was an asian fellow in a white van doing 25 mph, lol. I saw that guy almost every trip...

Its the funny street width in nyc that bothers me more than anything else. On most of the nyc side streets, it is possible to pack the street four cars wide with enough room to walk between the cars. Most of these streets though have people parked on the curbs on both sides of the street with a travel lane in the middle, just like any other american city. What happens in nyc is people double park so much that these roads are effectively a four lane. 4 wheelers have no problem squeezing by. In a truck you're lucky to wiggle through with an inch of clearance on either side of the truck. Many times you have to wait it out with lots of horn blowing to get the cars to move. If the streets were just a little bit wider, it wouldn't be a big deal and trucks could squeeze by double parked cars no problem. If the streets were a bit narrower, then there wouldn't be as much double parking because it would block off the street. With the widths of the streets in nyc the way they are, it just makes going to new york that much more of a pain for trucks.

    suggestions?

BQE north to atlantic east, to Georgia. Rt on Georgia, to a Rt on Liberty to a Lt on Alabama?

It's a preplan. Not sure if we have directions in system until mt tomorrow AM

EDIT: got automated instructions ... i was right except I need to go to Pennsylvania Ave to turn off of Atlantic, instead of Georgia
