The hardest part about NY is physically getting there.... Yeah, the undermarked overhead clearances are enough to drive one crazy, but the rediculous amount of traffic and the piss poor drivers thay they are make it more difficult than anything. The same goes for North Jersey... Complete idiots when it comes to traffic safety and traffic laws. I've been running NY and all of NJ in addition to CT, RI, DE, MD, WV, VA and PA and let me tell ya... I can write a book about the difficulties of running this region but in the end, nobody would care or learn from it because most of the drivers, both cars and trucks, take the stance of every man for themselves and just don't care. FYI, I live in NJ and work just over the bridge in PA so this is first hand experience being shared, not "I heard it on the internet" BS. There are some good drivers out there, but they are heavily out numbered by the idiots that shouldn't be allowed to drive.
Back on topic... As already stated a million times... No parkways for trucks and keep it out of the tunnels with hazmat or if over 12'6 or 13'... Forget whether the Lincoln is higher than the Holland or vice versa. Don't be afraid to use your cell phone to call a customer for truck directions. It is hard enough to run there... A little help goes a long way. I run mostly Long Island, but get the occassional stop in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. No more Manhattan for us.

Glad to help... Too bad this plethora of info known as the internet wasn't really even around when I started driving... Good Lord, cell phones were just on the up and up 13 years ago... I know there is traffic and bad drivers everywhere, but this region is what I am used to and I can say 1st hand that you never know what you are going to encounter on a day to day basis in North Jersey and NY. But like everything else, you learn to deal with it and adjust. We've all been there at some point.

The Lincoln tunnel is a 13' height restriction, its how I used to go to Manhattan going to the WTC location.
