Not to step on anybody's toes here--but just to mention a point that has been brought up too many times all over this(and other boards)all of NYC length limits etc...are BS--it is a city money grab--If you play it totally by the book as of about 1957--NYC outlawed all tractor trailers on the island of Manhatten except for 1-5am--that never worked either--and back in the 60's when NY State forced the city to renumber the expressways as Interstates and take federal funding all of the city became legal--since any municipality must allow access off a federal highway to and from YOUR destination point. This is not to say NYC doesn't try their BS on a regular basis--cross the manhatten bridge on the right Morning and the local DOT Gestapo is standing on Canal Street ticket books in hand--BECAUSE they know very few (if any will fight it)--but all it takes is a copy of your B/L sent with the ticket to Manhatten Traffic court--(address is on ticket)--So the point here is don't sweat it go make your drop etc and get out--Once you are over there and see the amount of long hoods pulling 53' trailers--you see what I am talking about.........

I used to go from Long Island to Jersey without paying a toll, taking the Conduit, Atlantic Avenue, Flatbush Avenue, and up First Avenue to the Willis Avenue Bridge to the GW.
Someone told me that is no longer allowed, not even at 2am
Anyone know if that route is actually off limits late at night? -
Officially speaking it has always been illegal w/53 ft trailer--since you are not gaining access off an Interstate to reach your destination--having said that I do it all the time 2AM-2PM whenever--works fine--mind your p's and q's and don't block the box! LOL--
And FYI--easier and less risk to follow 278 off flushing ave to 495 east to Van Dam St--to Queens blvd--then use lower roadway 59thst(queensboro Bridge) then up 2d ave--easier-shorter and eliminates and possible UN and foreign consulate hassles........

i was thinking of the 59th St bridge, but couldnt figure out how to get from the bridge to 1st Ave. Make a left down 2nd and go to 57th St and make the left and back to 1st Avenue? or go to third and come back? -
