Out west, they are still working on I-86 at around the exit for US219 around the reservation, get off and back on the Interstate.
Thre ramp from 3rd Avenue to 278westbound to the Verrazano is 1 lane and narrow, and they have the roadway on 278 split at that point for a ways. 278 in Staten Island is getting closer to done, but there is still plenty to do.
They are raising the deck on the Bayonne Bridge, but not sure of time frame for closures of that one.Speedloader Thanks this. -

Do a Google Earth search of the Walmarts there and see if you see any trucks in the parking lots.

Okay, I did one for you. Walmarts are out, but I did find a couple of trucks parked behind the Nassau Mall on Hempstead Turnpike, about a block west of N. Wantagh Ave on the north side of Hempstead turnpike. There's an AMC theater and a Best Buy in the shopping center, and behind the AMC there's about 3 or 4 places where you can probably park undetected. If it were me, I would give it a shot...

I want to offer my sincere thanks to those of you who took the time to post advice on how to navigate nyc. Studying this thread and a few others saved me a great deal of anxiety by getting me safely into and out of Brookyln.
All I can say for myself is WOW. I now understand why drivers refuse to go. Entirely different operating principals.
