Student with question, needs advice

I am currenty in truck driving school but trying to be proactive. My issues is a varied job history (no job longer than 2 years), and an imperfect driving record (2 pt careless driving and one accident 3 years ago). Does anyone know of a company for OTR that is, shall we say, a little more lenient on the qualifications?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Kyle

Can't answer your question, but would think your school instructors might be able to help you with that one.

The owner suggested TMC, US Xpress, and Werner. But was wondering if anyone out there and any other opinions. Any other comapnies out there, or any drivers in similar situations?

Well to be honest, I don't think that is too bad. a 2 point careless driving thing (doesnt sound bad...dont think I've been in a state where they had the point crap). One accident? Hmm. what kind of accident was it?

That doesnt seem too bad and I think many will look at your resume.

Also, keep in mind that they go back as far as they can in your driving history. IE, they looked at my stuff in Sep of 07 and I had an issue more than three years before that in Vegas. That held me up because something kept showing up as a Red Flag in Schneiderdom. I spent the better part of a day (and a ton of extra minutes with Verizon $$$) and was able to get it taken care of.

It was during an ice storm here in Jersey 3 years ago. I hit a telephone pole. Luckily, i was not injured, but my Durango took a $4000 hit. No one else was involved.

Thanks to everyone one who has replied, I appreciate the input. But if you read my initial post, I am looking for OTR.

Well yes you said that. However in some situations, a local gig is the best way to get started. Sure you might be able to land a OTR job because...'me wanna over da road vroom vroom'....but that could land you in the hands of Swift or someone else equally sucky. In some cases, to land a really good OTR gig, one might be better of starting locally and THEN after gaining experience trying to find a good reputable OTR company.

I see you live in New Jersey. NEMF has a large presense there and the outfit I work for is a northeast regional outfit called Eastern Freightways.

NEMF is union (machinists) and Eastern is non union. I suggest calling both or looking them up online. It can't hurt to check them out anyway even if they are not technically otr. In the case of Eastern they operate between Maine and Florida and out to Chicago Il. They do have team runs that go to California but they are rarely given to solos.
