tug test

yesterday, I backed under a trailer... and it didn't feel right... got out an looked and the handle hadn't snapped in place... tugged lightly and start to pull out from under the load...

hit it again and still no click...

pulled forward, repulled the handle out and backed under... tug tug... all is good.

this is the first time I have ever had this problem... but I always do that tug test... I even tug after getting fuel incase some helpful moron has decided to uncouple me...

FAST FORWARD...

went to omaha this morning... load of pigs scattered all over I35... which luckily I had by-passed taking 330 diagonal to 80 instead of the I35 route...

anyways thats on the news as I am returning from omaha and so is the accident behind me off I80...

truck came uncoupled from its trailer and was blocking the road...

not sure how bad this was... not as newsworthy as pigs running loose... lol

but... PLEASE>>> DON"T FORGET THAT TUG-TEST

IT CAN SAVE YOU ALOT OF splain'in as ricky would say...

Except in winter when there's snow on the ground. Much better to inspect the locking device and then try a tug-test. I saw a driver with over 35 years driving drop a trailer right off the tractor in winter. Lucky it was empty and we just jacked the trailer back up.

You didn't happen to see any with lipstick on, did you?

Sorry, I could not help myself on that one. Yes, always do the tug test.

Another trick at truck stops is do a tug and pull the airbrake while doing it. Makes it real hard for someone to pull your 5th wheel handle when parked with that pressure on it.
