I own 7 trucks, 3 of them with Auto Shift, and I will gravitate to ALL Autoshifts in time. And YES, I am "Footing" the Bills. I see better fuel mileage and less repair bills with the Autoshifts. I have never heard any of my Autoshifts Grind a Gear. I can't say that for the manual trannnys. As an Owner (and yes, I drive one of them every day), I am looking for Efficiency (Fuel Mileage), Maint/Repair Cost, Ease of Operation, and Driver Comfort (Less Driver Fatigue at the end of a long day). None of you can tell me that you have never missed/ground a gear with a manual, well that doesn't happen with the Auto Shifts. And if a Driver spends less time worrying about shifting gears, He/She can spend more time watching traffic, mirrors and paying attention to his surroundings and his load. So I actually see an increase in Safety. Also, my trucks haul Milk - Smooth Bore Tankers, No Baffles - and I like the way the auto shift downshifts and controls deceleration, which helps keep down the "Sloshing" and "Wave Effect" of stopping a Tanker. Just my 2 cents. I have noticed at the end of the day, I am less exhausted and less stressed from driving when I drive the Auto Shift. But we do drive in a lot of Stop & Go Traffic on I95 from Palm Beach to Miami. The Auto Shift is real nice in that situation. And in South Florida we have NO Snow & NO Hills/Mountains.
