    Manual Vs. Autoshift Transmission

10 speed auto, which I hate. 3.70 rears, How do you think my mileage will compare to 10 or 13 manual?

You will always get better mileage in a manual due to less resistance through the transmission as well as you being able to keep the engine in its best operating zone easier.

"less resistance through the transmission" ?

Isn't the autoshift just a regular 10 speed with a robot shifting it ? The transmission drag would then be the same.

    Thanks

Yes this is true, except the shifting is done by computer control electronic soleniods. The autoshift has a clutch pedal and the ultrashift is a centrifugal clutch (no pedal).

    auto's

auto's will skip gears just like a manual driver, depending on load also you can manually shift them also, the autos are the future because of better mileage for most drivers and a big reduction in maintinance cost. at least for the big companies, the only real negative is a higher intial cost

I have an auto shift that I have to run manually after every restart to retrain the computer to get the shift points set right. If i don't it will run the engine up to 2100 rpm before shifting and shock load the drive line and my back

being that I am always trucking from and to the UP of Michigan, I will stick with the 10 Manual. I can control it better in the snow.
