You will always get better mileage in a manual due to less resistance through the transmission as well as you being able to keep the engine in its best operating zone easier.
drivenmecrazy Thanks this. -
"less resistance through the transmission" ?
Isn't the autoshift just a regular 10 speed with a robot shifting it ? The transmission drag would then be the same.
Thanks -
3:70 gears? What motor, truck, what year and what are you hauling?

the auto's rind up them rpm's and go through every gear all the time.,,so a manual would prolly be better on gas
-
auto's will skip gears just like a manual driver, depending on load also you can manually shift them also, the autos are the future because of better mileage for most drivers and a big reduction in maintinance cost. at least for the big companies, the only real negative is a higher intial cost

I have an auto shift that I have to run manually after every restart to retrain the computer to get the shift points set right. If i don't it will run the engine up to 2100 rpm before shifting and shock load the drive line and my back

the autoshift is the same as a manual. i'm tryin to convince our boss to conver back to manual.....mechanic said very easy just bolt it up..
but the question asked 10spd auto -
being that I am always trucking from and to the UP of Michigan, I will stick with the 10 Manual. I can control it better in the snow.
